NURS 373 - Gerontology

Semester Hours: 4

A study of topics related to basic knowledge to form a foundation of needs fulfillment for older adults, their families, and significant others in their lives.  An overview of theories of aging; survey of social, legal and ethical issues; and trends in the United States will provide a beginning for assessment, planning, and delivery of nursing care for the older adult.  Learners will also have opportunities to explore the application of biological, social, psychological, and spiritual spheres of aging.  This course is aligned with the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Gerontological Nursing Board Certification Examination content outline.  Students may choose to take the ANCC certification exam following completion of the course (ANCC fees apply).
