Public History Minor

Public History students will gain the ability to:

Define and explain public history, its relationship to the study of history, and how it is
utilized in multiple careers where history is made to work in the world.
• Effectively communicate history in a variety of ways to multiple audiences.
• Apply historical skills (research, writing, source analysis, etc.) to design and develop
public history projects.
• Analyze and evaluate various examples of public history.

10 credit hours that include:

Plus, 16 credit hours from at least 3 of the 4 following areas:

History majors should draw from the first three areas, while other majors should include the History Content area as one of their three.

**History majors counting any credits from HIS 590 or HIS 497 toward the internship requirement for the major, should not double-count those credits in the Public History minor. If a student takes multiple internships for credit and/or multiple sections of HIS 497, then a student could count some of their credits toward the history major and some toward the Public History minor.
