Environmental Studies Mission Statement
Consistent with the mission of Westminster College, the Environmental Studies program seeks to develop an understanding of the complex interactions between humans and the natural world. An interdisciplinary liberal arts approach, combined with a disciplinary perspective, is used to provide a foundation that students will use to identify, investigate, and propose solutions to environmental problems that face humanity.
Learning Outcomes
- To demonstrate appropriate discipline-specific knowledge in the following general areas: Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, and Supporting Physical Science and Mathematics.
- To demonstrate knowledge of local, regional, and global environmental issues and the stakeholders involved and to evaluate the dynamic relationships among society, our environment, and the economy surrounding those issues.
- To demonstrate competence in relevant technical skills including laboratory methods, field work, use of technology, data analysis/interpretation, and scientific literacy.
- To demonstrate the ability to analyze environmental issues from a scientific perspective and to work collaboratively to address those issues.
- To demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate environmental issues to diverse audiences.
