Sports Management Mission Statement
Our mission is to prepare individuals to hone their knowledge in the core areas of communication (including media and public relations), facility and events, finance, law, management and marketing (including sponsorship, licensing and ticketing). This interdisciplinary degree enables students to develop their career readiness skills, presentation literacy, and public speaking across multiple majors while developing the abilities that employers seek.
Learning Outcomes
- Effectively communicate with and deliver information in oral, written and electronic formats to individuals and groups such as customers, clients, employees and managers.
- Incorporate contemporary sports management theory and practice and employ critical and creative thinking skills to solve problems and make managerial decisions.
- Illustrate ethical conduct and apply legal principles that surpass the expectations of the sport industry.
- Apply current theoretical and practical research to develop sport management proficiencies that can be applied to the sport industry.
- Facilitate professional development in the sport industry through participation in professional organizations, practical experiences and volunteer activities.
- Value diverse social and cultural contexts and their impact on self-awareness and self-perspective.
- Function competently in the international and global marketplace as it relates to sport management and administration.
This program, sponsored by the School of Business, prepares individuals to hone their knowledge in the core areas of communication (including media and public relations), facility and events, finance, law, management, and marketing (including sponsorship, licensing, and ticketing). In class course work will be supplemented with hands on experience working with campus or regional sports teams in addition to internship opportunities with sports organizations. The wide variety of courses offered provides a solid foundation for anyone interested in a business career outside of sports as well. Imagine yourself in a variety of sports related management careers including sports promotion, marketing and sales, facilities management, athletic or athletic conference leadership, personnel, as well as leadership of recreational organizations including community non-profits.
