Law and Politics Mission Statement
The mission of the Law and Politics major is to develop in our students the ability to apply informed, reflective, and sophisticated analysis and judgment to the major issues at the intersection of law and politics. Our curriculum attempts to develop this ability in three related ways. First, it provides each student with basic substantive knowledge of politics through two of the major fields of political science - political theory and philosophy; and the American political system. Second, the major places a focus on law related courses throughout the breadth of offerings at the college in several disciplines, thus providing a multi-focused approach to law and legal matters. Third, we stress the general abilities of clear and precise writing and the development of persuasive empirical and normative arguments, throughout the curriculum.
Learning Outcomes:
Describe the way law is made and implemented in multiple political and social contexts, both contemporary and historical
Demonstrate skill in applying legal and political frameworks to analyze contemporary issues

Politics is integrally involved in the making, interpreting and implementing of law. Law helps to set the parameters for politics. The Law and Politics major will provide students who are interested in law and legal careers a deep appreciation of legal reasoning and the complex interplay between law and politics.
