Broadcasting and Sports Communications, B.A.

Students who graduate with a degree in Broadcasting and Sports Communication from Westminster will be able to be successful with careers in broadcast and multimedia newsrooms, sports departments, athletic organizations and corporate and non-profit enterprises. Our graduates are professionals serving as journalists and sports reporters, on-air announcers, videographers, producers, directors, social media content creators, digital storytellers, media managers, communication specialists, multimedia editors and more.

At the completion of the curriculum, Broadcasting and Sports Communications majors will be able to:

• Utilize polished skills in broadcast and digital media writing, interviewing, and digital media production that meet best practices established by the industry.
• Create and produce independently and with others original media content on digital and high definition platforms under hard deadlines serving the community with programming, information and entertainment.
• Analyze and critique the language, aesthetic qualities, and production values of digital and broadcast communication while understanding how the media shapes our culture.
• Understand and utilize current technologies, techniques, theories, and best practices while producing media content for high definition, digital video.
• Collaborate and function in multiple roles in the creation of original programming content.
• Understand, integrate and appraise the ethical frameworks and legal constraints for media professionals.
