WST 091 - Experiencing Career and Community Semester Hours: 2
This early college course offers students the opportunity to bridge academic learning with real-world applications through a combination of work experience, community engagement, and seminar-style discussions. Students will gain firsthand exposure to the workforce and active community participation while refining essential soft skills such as communication, collaboration, and accountability. Through a weekly seminar, students will reflect on and analyze their work and community experiences through readings, case studies, and discussions. As part of the course, students will engage in a community-based project and present their experience in a public showcase attended by employers, community leaders, and other stakeholders. This hands-on learning opportunity will help students refine their career/academic interests, develop transferrable skills, and gain confidence as they prepare for post-graduation life. Prerequisite: C- or better in WST 090. Co-requisite: at least 20 hrs/wk of a supervised work or volunteer experience.
