CLU 177 - The Emoji Cluster: The Psychology and History of Emotions

Emotions help individuals understand and process their own experiences and reactions. They also shape and are shaped by cultural contexts. This cluster will introduce students to emotions using two disciplinary perspectives: psychology and history. Students will learn about the psychology of emotions, which includes the theoretical role of cognition and the impact on social relationships, and about the history of emotions, which studies the cultural expression of emotions in historical contexts. The course will introduce students to psychological and historical methodologies and will explore examples of emotions and a diverse range of historical topics. In doing so, students will learn the value and limitations of both disciplinary approaches.
