In this course, we will explore how crime is defined and how crime rates vary across a range of countries, both democratic and authoritarian. We
will also investigate the individuals and institutions that are tasked with responding to crime, processing criminal cases, and punishing criminal
offenders. By studying these subjects from a cross-national perspective, students should develop a deeper appreciation of how culture
influences crime and the workings of criminal justice institutions.
