SCI 374 - Essentials of Health Policy and Law

Semester Hours: 4

This course describes and analyzes, through the lenses of policy and law, the transformations taking place across the United States healthcare delivery and public health systems. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act is explored and interpreted along with the importance of accessibility, cost, and quality of healthcare. The course includes discussion of preparedness for natural disasters and pandemics as well as how social determinants of health effect individual and community health. Policy and law-making structures are described in the context of quality of life, safety, and health for all persons.
