WST 520 - Nature and Identity: PA Wilds

Semester Hours: 1

This course explores how personal experiences in nature contribute to the development of a sense of self and a sense of place. Students will reflect on how time spent in natural environments shapes identity and relationships with nature and those around them. Through immersive activities, discussions, and interaction with individuals connected to the place, students will consider how environment, local communities, ecosystems, and culture define specific places. Students will engage in service and creative activities that support a deeper understanding of personal connections to the environment. They will also contribute to a community of student learners and faculty. By the end of the course, students will gain a holistic understanding of the ways in which nature, people, and places intertwine to shape our collective and individual identities.
