WST 220 - Community Change Collaborative: Designing Creative Communities

This workshop style, project-based course connects Westminster College students with community members to explore and implement strategies for driving community change. Participants will engage in critical reflection on change mechanisms and evaluate their community’s strengths and opportunities. Through experiential learning and collaborative ‘bridge building’ between Westminster College and the New Wilmington area community, participants will challenge and broaden their views on changemaking. The first half of the term focuses on workshop-style learning with community members, while the second half involves students leading and executing a community engagement project. Ultimately, this course aims to help participants understand their role and impact within the community and to equip them with the knowledge, strategies, and tools that empower them to become effective changemakers. Each semester will feature a new changemaking theme, guided by a selected textbook.
