WRI 111 - Writing Semester Hours: 4
This foundational course prepares students to write successful college-level essays informed by research. Together, the instructor and students consider the functions of writer and reader and come to understand writing as a process that requires careful reading, deep thinking, drafting, and revising. Students are expected to complete assigned readings and to construct a variety of original written works in genres including narrative and argument. Writing assignments are designed to improve students’ abilities to integrate source material effectively. Such assignments, supplemented by in-class exercises, help students gain confidence and independence as writers. All students take this course in fall or spring of the first year. A minimum passing grade of C- is required for graduation.
