MTH 431 - Teaching Secondary Mathematics Semester Hours: 2
This course focuses on the teaching and learning of mathematics at the secondary level, using geometry as a primary context. Students will revisit and strengthen their understanding of geometric concepts while exploring geometry as an axiomatic system and examining its historical development. Emphasis is placed on mathematical reasoning, proof, and effective communication of mathematical ideas in the classroom. Students will practice teaching mathematics through geometry-based lessons and activities and will use mathematical software to model and visualize geometric concepts. The course also introduces non-Euclidean geometries, including spherical and hyperbolic geometry.
Prerequisite: C- or better in MTH 241 and SED 201 or by permission of instructor. When Offered: Offered in the fall semester on a three-year rotation
