CLU 142 - Identity Through the Lens of Sport and Film Semester Hours: 4
Drawing on the disciplines of political science and film studies, this cluster explores the intersection globalization and sport on economic class, ethnic and national identities across a variety of countries and cultures. The cluster explores how ethnic, class, and national loyalties manifest themselves through sport and culture, with a particular focus on how these themes are presented in film. Both sport and fil evoke strong emotions among fans, and patterns of cultural and economic consumption of globalized sport along with other cultural products occur unevenly across and among societies. Students in the cluster explore cultural, economic and political impacts of globalization on sport ( and other significant cultural products) as expressed through the medium of film. The cluster encourages students to approach these themes in a comparative framework.
