ART 203 - Handbuilding Ceramics Semester Hours: 4
An introductory course concentrating on handbuilding techniques: coil, slab, press mold, drape mold, and modeling. Problem-solving assignments will utilize the versatility of clay to create both functional and sculptural forms. In addition to building forms, students will learn about various finishing surfaces that can be applied to ceramics and be introduced to examples of historical and contemporary ceramics. Clay making and kiln firing procedures are also components to the course. Meets Visual and Performing Arts Intellectual Perspective requirement (VP).
