ART 213 - Art and Nature Semester Hours: 4
The beauty, power, and mystery of nature present a limitless creative space to explore through visual art. This course encourages that exploration through outdoor observational field painting and sketching as well as larger, nature-related studio painting projects. Topics including biodiversity, climate change, habitat loss and extinction are encountered across projects designed to reinforce basics of representational depiction, while also offering opportunities for individual stylistic choices. Students deepen their relationship with the natural world as they express ideas related to critical ecological issues. A significant portion of this course is spent outdoors drawing from nature at the Westminster Field Station, and other areas. Toward the end of the semester, students will participate in the Symposium on the Environment. The course is designed for all skill levels. Meets Visual and Performing Arts Intellectual Perspective requirement (VP).
Intellectual Perspective: VP When Offered: Every fall semester.
