ART 219 - Fiber Arts Semester Hours: 4
This course is a creative exploration of design as it applies to fiber arts. Felt making will be the primary area of focus. Students will learn to use fibers to create a variety of projects using wool from both local and regional sources. Students will learn how to blend their own colors, make both flat wall works, and three dimensional forms such as bags, boots, pillows. A brief history of this ancient “first textile” will be introduced as well as contemporary artists who use felt as their primary art form. Methods covered are classic wet felting that blends the wool layers to each other, needle felting that provides fine detail work, and experimental forms such as web and nuno felting that merge sheer textiles with wool to create wearables such as vests and scarves. Meets Visual and Performing Arts Intellectual Perspective requirement (VP).
Intellectual Perspective: VP When Offered: Offered in Spring term.
